About Dr. Janis Prince

Associate Professor of Sociology
Among other publications, the work of Dr. Janis Prince has appeared in O, the Oprah Magazine, Everyday Sociology Reader, and The Politics of Black Women’s Hair. Her many professional presentations have included international and national conferences and focused primarily on the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Dr. Prince has taught more than 16 unique courses both online and by video conferencing, but primarily at the University Campus. Her teaching excellence has been recognized nationally with an award from the 2016 Alpha Kappa Delta Teaching Contest.
Committed to supporting undergraduate research, she has mentored and taken students to present their research at the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference, several times. Additionally, Dr. Prince wrote proposals which secured funds to hold the university’s first two Sociology Research Symposia. The first event was held at a Saint Leo center in Georgia, and the second at University Campus; both events included student participation across University locations.
